The following defines what awards are available for cheerleaders this 2016 season.  One award requires an essay, the others must be nominations from your coach. 

If you feel you should be nominated please speak to your coach directly and they must submit the formal recommendation.

Awards are for 8th grade cheerleaders only, JV or Varsity squads.  All awards will be presented at the November cheer exhibition during the middle school performance.

Katie Murphy Award of Excellence

This award will be granted to an individual who demonstrates leadership both on and off the field.  8th grade cheerleaders to be considered must be an example to their teammates and coaches, demonstrate the values and integrity that SYF represents to the community; academically thrive in their education and reflect community service and dedication that is the basis of the Stamford Youth Foundation structure of volunteerism.

 

To be considered for this award, an 8th grade cheerleader must submit a request for review in essay form that identifies with examples how the individual meets the above criteria.  This essay can be handwritten or typed, emailed or mailed but must be sent directly to the President, Cheerleading Division at either of the following locations by October 20, 2016:

If being mailed I must receive it by Friday, October 20th

Finalists will be reviewed and the winner will be announced at the cheer exhibition on November 19th, 2016 during the middle school division performance.

Peter Cernansky Sportsmanship Award

This award will be granted to an individual who demonstrates the highest level of sportsmanship on the field, during practice, within SYF. 

This award must come as a nomination from your coach.  The coach must send Krissy Carboni via email a short summary as to why cheerleader should be considered to receive this award.

Winner will be presented a plaque by Mr. & Mrs. Cernansky at the middle school division performance at the cheer exhibition on November 19th, 2016

 

Marcus Dixon McInerney Athletic Achievement Award

This award will be granted to an individual who demonstrates athletic success that can include multiple sports or extended participation in one sport.  The recipient must prove that they thrive in athletics while maintaining excellent grades.

This award must come as a nomination from your coach.  The coach must send Krissy Carboni via email a short summary as to why cheerleader should be considered to receive this award.

Winner will be presented a plaque by Mr. & Mrs. McInerney at the middle school division performance at the cheer exhibition on November 19th, 2016

Benjamin Gold Award

This award is given to one 8th grade football player and cheerleader from each of the 7 middle schools.  The recipient is selected as a “coach’s choice”.  The recipients will be chosen at the coaches discretion but must be inclusive of excellent grades.
